The TIMS is designed to provide a robust, scalable, and user-friendly system that collects, processes, and stores data related to the tourism and hospitality sector, and provides real-time updates on tourism trends and performance. The system is integrated with other relevant sector systems, tested, and hosted by the government of Uganda.
The data collected and visualized in TIMS is sustained by feedback by contributing agencies and institutions under the Tourism sector as well as national statistics centers. Tourism is a significant contributor to the economy of Uganda, providing employment opportunities, foreign exchange, and boosting economic growth.
However, there is a lack of centralised data sources that provide comprehensive and up-to-date information on the tourism industry. The Tourism Information Data Portal aims to bridge this gap by providing a one-stop shop for all tourism-related data, enabling policymakers and stakeholders to make informed decisions.
The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities provides support and advice to all players on the platform working at collecting, managing, and disseminating data related to the tourism industry from the TIMS portal.
